Armed Robbers Raid Mukuru Outlet in Bulawayo, Flee with Thousands in Cash
Suspected armed robbers raided a Mukuru outlet in Bulawayo and escaped with more than US$70 000 and R500 000 in a daring daylight robbery that has left residents and business operators concerned.
According to reports, the suspects stormed the outlet and quickly seized large sums of cash before fleeing the scene. The robbery is believed to have been carefully planned, as the attackers appeared to know that significant amounts of money were available at the premises.
Officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) responded swiftly and are currently conducting investigations. Police have not yet released details on the number of suspects involved or whether any arrests have been made. There were no immediate reports of injuries, but authorities are continuing to gather information from witnesses and employees who were present during the incident.
The robbery has revived memories of the high-profile US$4 million heist at Ecobank Zimbabwe in October 2024, one of the largest recent cash robberies in Bulawayo. That case raised serious concerns about security measures at financial institutions and cash-handling outlets in the city.
Residents and business owners have expressed growing anxiety over the rise in armed robberies targeting financial service providers. Many are calling for improved security systems and increased police patrols in commercial areas to prevent similar incidents.
Police have urged members of the public with any information that could assist in identifying and locating the suspects to report to their nearest police station. Investigations into the Mukuru robbery are ongoing.
